Quilts for Autumn and Halloween - Part 1

Where has this year gone?  It's already time to think about sewing for a new season. Here are some fun and attractive autumn and Halloween quilts to inspire your creativity !

Please note: We're continuously posting free patterns on Twitter !

We're also selling beautiful quilting and crafting books at low introductory prices on e-Bay!

Quilt (no title) by Sandy Rauperstrauch

Sandy explains that this quilt was done with paper piecing, and the design evolved when more squares were completed and arranged. Then the border was added in the same pattern.

Sandy's design inspiration was a pattern in an old Quilter's Newsletter magazine. Against a classic back background, the quintessential autumn colors of orange, gold, and tan, with a hint of muted green create a lovely contrast.

Fall Pineapple by Layne Rahbar

We really liked the innovative design and strip border of Fall Pineapple.  Layne Rahbar says, "I like to design with the pineapple pattern. This was designed on EQ4 (Electric Quilt), using a multicolor floral and whatever I had in the stash." It was machine quilted.

Finished - at Last! by Maureen Pastika, quilted by Brenda Cornell

Maureen notes that her quilt was started in a class in October 2004. It sat in a pizza box for 10 years, until Maureen took it to a quilt retreat in 2014 and finished it. Finally, in 2015, it was longarm quilted by Brenda Cornell, and that is why Maureen titled her quilt, "Finished At Last." ( Raise your hands if you can relate to this humorous story !)  This mystery quilt was designed by Debbie Caffrey.

This butterscotch yellow looks "yummy" next to the orange batik and plum prints to create the traditional "Amish Star" or "Cottage Star" block.

Boo, 44 x 48",  by Tamara Watts-McPhail (Iowa), quilted by Linda McGhee

Tamara says that she loves Halloween and needed a new quilt.  This quilt combines so many fun elements: a witch, haunted houses,  ghosts, candy corn, spider webs, bats, and the words "Boo" and "Halloween"!

Witches by Colleen Earnshaw (Utah), quilted by Cindy Paulsen

What do witches do on their day off ? Apparently, they go shopping ! This darling quilt combines patchwork, applique, and delightful embroidery. Colleen's Witches quilt is based on the Witches in Stitches pattern by Oh My Bloomin' Threads.

Stonehenge Path (Labyrinth Walk) by Ruth Fulton, quilted by Debbie Stanton

Honorable Mention winner Ruth Fulton writes, "I found this pattern on the internet and decided to do it in all Stonehenge fabric." The Labyrinth Walk quilt pattern is by Christopher Florence.  We've love Ruth's choice of warm colors!

Longarm quilter Debbie Stanton has quilted this advanced and intriguing quilt pattern in thousands of round and oblong pebble designs. They enhance and complement the angular, geometric motif of this labyrinth.

  2. Though I have a Halloween birthday, I have never made a Halloween quilt. These days the "holiday" is popular in Japan ... maybe because of the costume link. I do love fall colors and have made table runners with tessellating leaves or fall leaf-print borders. Those witches are so cleaver. If I had wall space, I might be tempted to try something like that.
